Gavin Waid is a vocalist from Lake Wales, Florida, currently residing in Orlando, FL. In 2013, Gavin received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Central Florida, and his Master of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 2016, where he studied with Paul Rowe.
Gavin has experience in straight theatre, musical theatre and opera, performing with such organizations as Opera Orlando (formerly Florida Opera Theatre), The Titusville Playhouse, Inc., The Orlando Philharmonic, UW Opera, Madison Savoyards, Fresco Opera, Middleton Players Theater, and Madison Opera. With UW Opera, Gavin has performed scene studies and roles that include Count Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Achilla (Guilio Cesare), and Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia). In the realm of musical theater, Gavin has performed roles that include Tobias Ragg (Sweeney Todd), Herod (Jesus Christ Superstar), Malcolm (The Full Monty), Dr. Alexandre Manette (A Tale of Two Cities), and the Baker (Into the Woods).
Gavin also has experience singing in a choir in both operatic and choral settings. In a collaboration between the Orlando Philharmonic and the UCF Chamber singers, under the direction of Dr. David Brunner, Gavin has performed as a bass soloist in J.S. Bach's Wiehnachts Oratorium BVW 248, and a choirister in Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria. Also with UCF Chamber singers, Gavin had the honor of performing J.S. Bach's Cantata 140 as well as being a part of the Central Florida debut of David Lang's "Little Match Girl Passion." In a collaboration between the Orlando Philharmonic and the UCF University Choir, Gavin has sung in a variety of concerts, such as various Verdi and Puccini opera choruses, Mahler's "Ressurrection" Symphony, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.
For two summers, Gavin had the pleasure of working with Professor Sylvia Stone and Scuola Italia as a part of Scuola's Program for Young Opera Singers in Sant'Angelo in Vado, Italy. Through the course of the program, he had the opportunity of working with professionals such as June Card, Alejandro Roca-Bravo, Michael Schlüter-Padberg, Marco Angelini, Julio Mirón, and William Matteuzzi. Under the direction of Michael Schlüter-Padberg in 2012, Gavin studied scenes from Le Nozze di Figaro, L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Il Viaggio al Reims, and Così fan Tutte. In 2013, under the direction of Marco Angelini, he studied scenes from Le Nozze di Figaro, Così fan Tutte, L'Amico Fritz, La Traviata, Falstaff, Il Trovatore, and La Forza del Destino.
